Home, as defined by google, is: “the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household.”
Personally, I find this simple definition to be restrictive and narrow, as with most definitions. For, I believe that it is the experiences of a place, the people who come into it, and the memories that are carved into the walls and cut into the floors that create a home.
Home has arguably never been one place for me. It has often been a spot below the cascading trees, or upon a rock beside a rushing river. Home for me, is fluid, dynamic, and ever-changing. It has never been permanent.
It is a place beyond the physical realm; a feeling of comfort and security in the hearts of others. Home is wherever I am happiest and at peace.
Though home is all of these things, I always try to create a sanctuary where ever I may rest my head. I have cultivated this space to be a room of solace, and somewhere that reminds me of everything I love in this life: nature, art, music, books, etc. To create a haven away from the chaos of life is of importance to me, and should be important in everyone’s life, as we spend such a great amount of time in our homes.
I am a firm believer in self-expression through every and/or any form, and a ‘home’ is a great place to manifest one’s creativity. So, until I live in my van, traveling up and down the continent, here is my temporary home.
