As the days of winter are steadily winding into spring, I find myself feeling nostalgic for the warmer days. I crave the ease and peace that they bring; the aromas that spill into the air; the warmth that fills each soul that passes by on the street. Mostly, I am just ready for the end of this weather (i.e. snow, cold temps, and the constant grey that colours the sky). With every beginning, we must learn to appreciate the time we spent with the last chapter.

This winter began with the cold snap of heartbreak, and is closing with a heart that is slowly mending through self-love, rediscovery of hobbies, and the exploration of passion and joy. Winter time exudes a kind of melancholic atmosphere over my mind every year, which many may be familiar with as the “winter blues.” Although, however shitty I had felt, I acquired a newfound sense of peace within. I am slowly learning that the world does not give you people or situations for you to suffer, it’s quite the opposite actually. These “problems” as we’ll call them, are learning lessons which are given to help you grow.

So with this theme of growth comes the season of spring which is climbing its way into the earth’s crevices. The magnolia trees are (slowly) beginning to bud, the camas is starting to grow up from the meadows, and the snow is nurturing all the plants and wildlife with extra water. Although this snow is a pain in the ass, it’s also a growing experience, both metaphorically and literally.
